Grits for Breakfast has an extremely cogent synopsis of big changes coming to the Texas Court of
Appeals; three judges, Tom Price, Cathy
Cochran and Paul Womack, have announced that they will not be seeking
re-election this year.
Texas Weekly’s Brandi Grissom
mentioned it as well:
"The three judges, she said, have often been in the majority on the recent opinions with a consistent trend toward opening up cases that would otherwise have been closed in light of new scientific developments.
"A number of those decisions could have gone the other way" without those three judges on the panel, Laurin said."
This is important; these are middle-of-the-road
judges, for Texas; whichever group replaces them is going to have a huge impact
on future appeals. We could get some reasonable, personal-liberty loving
judges, or we could see Judge Keller’s statist gang expand.
2014 is still a ways off and the
elections may seem too big, to untouchable for you to be involved in; that’s
not the case. We have to raise awareness of what’s been going on, what
continues to go on in Texas’ justice system. Please, take a minute to talk to
your friends, your family, your neighbors, about how this election may one day
impact Carlos Coy’s case directly. I’ll try to post more info about whoever
throws their hat into the ring, but I can’t get people to go vote; only a concerted effort by those of us that give a shit can do that.

Technically, pedophilia is a psychiatric diagnosis; no particular action makes you one. What you mean is that you think he's a child molester. Personally, I have a hard time applying that definition to someone who had sex with a girl who was far enough past puberty to get pregnant, because 'child' implies that they're still physically children.
That being said, I have to point out that if you're okay with the justice system convicting someone of a crime that you admit he didn't commit, you're supporting injustice. If they can do it to one innocent person, they can do it to any other; that could be you, it could be your brother, or your son. If no proof is needed, then everyone is at risk. By turning your nose up at the idea of helping someone who's been wrongfully convicted, you're allowing a system that feeds off the lives of the innocent to perpetuate.
Mayne whats the dealie, Incandensio you always explain everything in such a way that makes me be like "why cant you be that smart" lol but honestly i admire what you doing for SPM and to serve justice. If you read through the blog, you'll see that I freely admit that I don't know that; it's my opinion that he didn't, but neither I nor anyone else can prove it.
The point of all this, the reason why I write and advocate that he receive a new trial is that none of the evidence I have seen, heard, or read about proves beyond a reasonable doubt that he did. It seems to me that he was never given the presumption of innocence, which undermines the most basic foundations of the justice system.
...and that's wrong.

Well, if you can accept that I'm sincere in my belief that he did not commit the crime for which he was convicted, what evidence is there that he's a danger to 9 year-olds?
The chance of abuse at his house would be no higher than it would be at any other individual's house. If you let your daughter go to sleep-overs, to her grandparent's house, or to school, you're taking the same risk.
If the statistics can be believed, 30% of abusers are related to the child, and 60% are friends, neighbors, baby sitters and child care workers. Hell, the American school system has a storied history of molestation by teachers, janitors, coaches, etc.

Well i personally think that all this shit is wrong. The law stats innocent until proven guilty but in LOS case it was guilty until proven innocent isn't that bullshit.
