Letter to Pat Lykos 14

Thursday’s post will be SPM’s answer to one of last month’s questions, but tomorrow’s the 14^th, which means it’s time for another letter to Lykos. I’m writing today about the case of Carlos Coy, #908426.

I’d like to encourage you once more to review the files from this case; many of them have been hidden from the public by the Family Code. We are not allowed to see what evidence the police gathered, what was used in his trial and what was excluded.

As Texas considers whether or not to begin a Court of Inquiry into the case of Michael Morton, many of us are wondering how many other cases would have gone differently had all the evidence been allowed.

Despite the massive wave of publicity that resulted from Coy’s trial and conviction, few newspaper stories revealed anything of substance about the evidence against him. The papers talked about little other than accusations; no analysis of those that were dismissed, or the substance of the state’s expert testimony.

A cursory internet search brings up information about the trial that no one seemed to feel was important enough to talk about, but these things touch on the very foundation of his conviction.

Please, consider looking into this matter. We need to know what happened, how it happened, and why there appears to be so many discrepancies between what was reported by the media and what can be learned from the few public, government-published documents available.
