Letter to Pat Lykos 14

If you’re impressed by the new logo, stop by Most Potent and let Lazy Menace know. He has been providing graphics and content since near the beginning of this blog and I highly recommend his work.

Lazy recently released a mixtape, entitled The Most Potent, and I’m looking forward to the release of Then Days Went By. Y’all know I don’t normally push music on this blog, so please understand how impressed I am by the talent and message this man presents.

Some of the old posts did not change text color to match the new format; if you come across one in the archives that appears to be blank, please leave me a comment and I’ll fix it.

Thursday’s post will be SPM’s answer to one of last month’s questions, but tomorrow’s the 14th, which means it’s time for another letter to Lykos. Please take a minute to read mine, and then either write your own, mail a copy of mine, or print out one of the downloadable flyers to your right and send that.

The Honorable Pat Lykos

Ma’am,

I’m writing today about the case of Carlos Coy, #908426.

I’d like to encourage you once more to review the files from this case; many of them have been hidden from the public by the Family Code. We are not allowed to see what evidence the police gathered, what was used in his trial and what was excluded.

As Texas considers whether or not to begin a Court of Inquiry into the case of Michael Morton, many of us are wondering how many other cases would have gone differently had all the evidence been allowed.

Despite the massive wave of publicity that resulted from Coy’s trial and conviction, few newspaper stories revealed anything of substance about the evidence against him. The papers talked about little other than accusations; no analysis of those that were dismissed, or the substance of the state’s expert testimony.

A cursory internet search brings up information about the trial that no one seemed to feel was important enough to talk about, but these things touch on the very foundation of his conviction.

Please, consider looking into this matter. We need to know what happened, how it happened, and why there appears to be so many discrepancies between what was reported by the media and what can be learned from the few public, government-published documents available.

Thank you for your time.

Me, my address, blah blah blah.

Has Pat Lykos or anyone ever responded to any of the letters you sent?

I've gotten a couple of responses, one from Baldwin Chin of the Post Conviction Review team and one from Jim Leitner, asking for more information. Enough to know that someone is reading the letters we send.

And has anyone of them mentioned any possibility of a re trial?

No, that's not something they'd just offer; we're going to have to fight tooth and nail to get a new trial. You up for it?

you already know, its hard for people to listen to me though because of the severity of the crime he was charged with, especially when they do not take the time to look at the facts, but im willing to do anything i can to help
